Overview |
 |
 |
 |
 | Germany is traditionally dominated by the hostels of the German Youth Hostel Federation/ Hostelling International that come from the tradition of the "hikers home" and ask a member card that you don't need with us. We also have no curfew or lockout times. The "new" type of private hostel in Germany on the other hand is mostly very modern and efficient. Our hostel is rather like the traditional british type: small and more of a private home than a hotel. | | All permanent residents that live in the house are taking care of the guest rooms. That way we don't need a permanent reception. It is a rare occaison that there is noone in the house at all. We are mostly students. We live on the upper floor of the house. We are not professionals. | | Bed sheets are 2,5. Towels 0,5 to 1. You are welcome to bring your own instead. There is one washroom, two toilets and two showers on the guest floor. There are no sinks in the rooms. Most rooms cannot be locked. Bring a padlock if you want to use the lockers.
We hand out electronic keys to the entrance door (de-posit 10) and free city maps.
Arrival and departure should take place between 8am and 22pm. Give us notice if you arrive after 6pm so that we keep the beds for you. Rooms should be vacated by 11am. Luggage can be left in the hostel until departure. We do not offer breakfast. There is a fully equipped, self-service kitchen though and super-mar-kets, bakeries and cafés can be found nearby. | | The house is located in the historic center of Weimar. It was build around 1770 in the baroque style. The house is still a work in progress. We are slowly renovat-ing the building and trying to recreate some of the original feeling of the house. So please note that the building has NOT been thoroughly modernised and that it partly still is in a bad shape. Some people consider the atmosphere of the house some-what alternative. The character of a self-organized student dorm is prevail-ing and furniture is all second hand, GDR style.
Weimar is small enough to be navigated on foot. A bus or a bike will take you to the surrounding castles and parks and to the concentration camp Buchenwald. There is also a scenic bike-trail along the river through a very varied landscape. |

The house is located in the historic center of Weimar. It was build around 1770 in the baroque style. Most of the historic interior was removed when the house was remodeled to become a student dorm in 1982. The house is still a work in progress. The residents are renovating the building step by step and trying to recreate some of the original feeling to the house. Many people consider the atmosphere of the house somewhat "alternative". The character of a self-organized student dorm is prevailing. | | Directions | Arriving by car: Coming from the autobahn follow the main road into the city. When the street ends in a T-crossing turn left. Follow the street as it bends left. Turn right at the next stoplight. Follow the street through another left bend and turn right immediately afterwards (at the lights) into Heinrich-Heine-Strasse. Turn right into small Geleitstraße just behind the following light. Take care to turn right after 200m again (as the street ahead bears a different name).
Arriving by train: Take bus No.1,5,6,7 or 8 or walk downhill to Goetheplatz (less than 15 minutes). Turn left into Geleit-straße. Take care to turn right again after 200m (as the street ahead has a different name).
You will find the entrance of the greyish-pink building to your left a few steps from the street behind a fountain and somewhat hidden beneath vines. | | Airport | Erfurt airport is 28km away. Frankfurt is about 180km. |
